semiconductors boiling! – 03/11/17

Broadcom semiconductor manufacturer (AVGO) has filed an unsolicited takeover bid for its US $ 100 billion rival Qualcomm (QCOM) in cash and shares.

Note that at the same time Qualcomm has made an offer on NXP up to 40 billion dollars.

Broadcom and Qualcomm have very complementary offers. Qualcomm, number one in the wireless communications chips used in smartphones, has patents that allow it to collect royalties on virtually every smartphone sold in the world.

Broadcom markets a broad range of telecommunications network equipment, including technologies for Apple and Samsung smartphones, as well as data storage offerings, electronics and set-top boxes.

An ETF dedicated to semiconductors has been available at SDPR since January 2006. It consists of 35 securities, its outstandings stand at € 350 million and its fees are 0.35%.

After 28% growth in 2016, XSD has gained 27% since the beginning of the year, driven by the upward revisions of the companies of this sector.
